“Big Tent Humanism: Making Room for Each Other” – Louise Jett

“Big Tent Humanism: Making Room for Each Other” will be presented by Louise Jett at the Sunday, October 18, 2026, meeting of the Ethical Humanist Society of Asheville, 2:30 – 4:00 pm at 227 Edgewood Rd, Asheville, NC. A hybrid Zoom option will also be available. All are welcome to attend.
We will view a presentation by Louise Jett – Ethical Culture Leader – recently given at the Ethical Society of St. Louis. A discussion of the presentation and Ethical Culture values will be led by Jackie Simms.
Humanism asks us to live our values loudly enough that somebody can recognize them in the way we treat people. Our values become real when we risk living them. Louise suggests her humanism is reflected by the way someone is treated: remembering somebody’s name; noticing someone sitting alone; sharing food; checking in; listening; making space at the table; giving somebody a little more patience than you feel like giving them; showing up when something is difficult; protecting someone’s dignity when they’re not even in the room. People remember how a place made them feel.
Curious and compassionate, Louise Jett (she/her) is a communicator at heart and a collaborator by choice. Her background spans journalism, photography, graphic design, social media, and education. What ties it all together? A deep commitment to relationships, quality, and impact. Louise is an American Ethical Union certified Leader who lights up when people come together to support, empower, and care for one another. She is grateful to be a part of our community.
