In a culture that often values autonomy above most other principles and values, the challenges of aging impact our sense of self, the stories we tell about our lives, and our sense of meaning and spirituality in profound ways. How can we navigate changes and transitions with agency and intention and find the gifts that this unexpected and often unwanted journey brings?
Brenda Lewis is the Director of Spiritual Care at Givens Estates and Givens Gerber Park in Asheville. Before coming to Givens three years ago she worked for 18 years as a chaplain with CarePartners Hospice. Her work in Interfaith and Interphilosophy chaplaincy began three years before that as the chaplain at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Brenda also taught Humanities at UNC Asheville for five years. When not at Givens, Brenda keeps bees and chickens, hikes, reads voraciously, and plays bass in seedy places.
