Defending Democracy in North Carolina – What you can do to help!
Bob will explore the history and challenges of creating open, honest and accountable government that promotes equal rights and empowers all people in the political process. He will specifically discuss voter suppression and redistricting reform proposals currently before the NC General Assembly and CCNC’s efforts to build citizen power for the cause of voting rights and Fair Maps
According to the Brennan Center of Justice, as of March 24, legislators have introduced 361 bills with restrictive provisions in 47 states restricting, among other things, absentee voting, early voting, automatic voter registration, polling places and furthering criminal disenfranchisement.
Bob Phillips has served as Executive Director of Common Cause North Carolina since 2001.
Bob’s work includes lobbying the legislature and building statewide grassroots campaigns for good-government reforms. He is a North Carolina native, a graduate of UNC-Chapel Hill and worked as a broadcast journalist in Raleigh and press secretary for former Lt. Gov. Dennis Wicker before joining Common Cause.
