Jim Tobin is a retired pediatrician and statistician who moved to Asheville from Rochester, NY in 2003. His entire medical practice years were directed towards the care of people who had difficulty accessing medical care. Among the practices that he helped develop were programs targeting inner-city residents, rural residents and migrant laborers. Using his statistical training, he promoted quality assurance and appropriate utilization patterns of health care workers. He is currently active in supporting the living wage movement, expanding health care coverage to the uninsured and supporting fair trade.
